September 1987 – August 1992: Like fellow young Braves pitchers Tom Glavine and John Smoltz, he struggles in the early portion of his career. He makes several trips to the disabled list. Unlike the other two, he doesn’t figure it out in limited action in 1991 and 1992.
August 1992 – October 1992: Returns from the disabled list and looks to be living up to the promise many think he held. He goes 7 – 0 during this period, and the Braves are 11 – 0 in his starts.
April 1993 – September 1993: Given a spot in the starting rotation, he can’t put it together. By September, he will have lost his spot in the rotation.
December 1993: Traded to the NY Mets for Dave Gallagher.
